Dear Neighbor,
I’m running for a seat on the Vacaville School Board in Trustee Area 4 because I have a passionate belief in public education. We need to ensure that our kids are getting everything they need to grow into productive and healthy adults. That means creating a positive learning environment, establishing rigorous academic standards and supporting each individual student.
Education starts with serving the whole child. We need to make sure our students’ physical and mental health needs are being addressed as well as their social/emotional needs. This is crucial to creating a positive environment in which to learn and grow.
As a candidate, I have four main issues I want to tackle:
1. Building a school in Trustee Area 4. It is currently the only Trustee Area without a public school, and families in the north end of town must travel way too far to get their kids to school. In the meantime we must provide bus service to and from school for kids living in the outlying areas.
2. Expanding early college and career technical education programs. Giving our kids a jump on a career or a higher education allows them to begin their chosen path without a mountain of debt. It also helps local employers and boosts the economy.
3. Ensuring fiscal accountability. Funds from the next school bond must be used specifically for student needs. We must also be careful to keep from spending one-time grant money on permanent programs.
4. Developing innovative strategies to hire and retain qualified employees. Like most employers, the school district is facing a huge challenge with recruitment and we need to find new ways to meet the need.
Please fill out your ballot on or before September 12th. I would appreciate your vote.
Sincerely,
Dave McCallum
